January 2023 saw ROAVR release TiDE™ ®.  TiDE is our flagship product for the offshore wind sector and stands for Turbine Inspection Delivery Enhancement.

TiDE uses unmanned aerial systems to collect high quality data for onward processing and delivery through our bespoke client portal – i-ROAVR.

Offshore wind forms a major part of the U.K. commitment and that is set to grow with an ambitious net zero target to be met by 2050. (2)

All across the U.K businesses are pivoting, investing and upskilling to meet this challenge.  Turbines grow ever larger and with that comes challenges around transportation and installation.  

Cranes are getting larger, transport challenges expand both on land and at sea and whilst the installation process grows ever more efficient, the supply chain gets more and more complex with many specialist niche contractors having to work closely together to achieve the overall objective of safe, clean, renewable energy.

One of the biggest challenges facing all of us involved in renewables is investment in equipment, infrastructure and staff to meet the supply chain needs.

It is a chicken and egg scenario.  Particularly in relation to Scottish Offshore wind.  Ports and suppliers are unwilling to invest to meet the needs of developers and developers are unwilling to place orders until they know ports and suppliers can meet the requirement.

Drones fit neatly into the supply chain providing a safe, efficient and fast way to gain high quality actionable data.  But they only form part of the solution and with artificial intelligence looming, how will the challenges be met when it comes to presenting data to stakeholders?

ROAVR has developed the TiDE™ ® system to support wind farm developers and Tier 1 contractors.  

The system is based on coal face down and dirty experience in the sector starting with onshore wind and progressing to offshore through Beatrice, Moray East and Seagreen projects.

The construction, transportation, storage and installation of offshore wind farm components involves multiple stakeholders and many handling operations.
