Led by CIEEM-member ecologists holding Natural England survey licences. From £450 plus VAT. Survey seasons matter. Bat emergence surveys run mid-May to September. Great crested newt surveys run mid-March to mid-June, with the eDNA window mid-April to end June. Breeding bird surveys run April to June. Missing a season can delay a planning application by up to twelve months. ### Biodiversity Net Gain Baseline habitat survey, statutory biodiversity metric calculation, BNG Statement, BNG Strategy and Options Report, and 30-year Habitat Management and Monitoring Plan. BNG has been mandatory for most planning applications in England since April 2024 under the Environment Act 2021, requiring a minimum 10 per cent gain over the pre-development baseline secured for 30 years. From 6 August 2026, sites with a red-line area of 0.2 hectares or less, around 2,000 square metres, are exempt where no priority habitat is present or negatively affected. The de minimis threshold of under 25 square metres of habitat also still applies. Applications submitted before 6 August 2026 are assessed under the previous rules. Scotland and Wales operate separate frameworks. Exempt from BNG does not mean exempt from ecology. Confirming exempt status usually requires an ecologist to check for priority habitat, protected species law is unchanged, and most councils still require a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal for planning validation. ### Drone survey and asset inspection Aerial inspection and LiDAR survey for infrastructure, renewables, offshore assets and the built environment. Crews hold MIST, BOSIET and HUET certification for offshore deployment. Digital twins, wind turbine inspection, overhead power line and pipeline corridor surveys, roof, cladding and facade condition surveys, and dropped object searches. Notable engagements include an 18-month jacket inspection at Seagreen Offshore Windfarm and a 30km pipeline corridor survey. Deployable UK-wide and worldwide. ## Who ROAVR works with Homeowners whose planning application has been held up by a tree, ecology or BNG condition. Architects and planning agents commissioning surveys on client schemes. Property developers needing BNG statements, metric calculations or Ecological Impact Assessments. Planning consultants looking for a nationwide consultancy partner. Estate and facility managers with tree safety duties. Renewables, offshore, oil and gas and infrastructure operators needing aerial asset inspection. ## Common questions Do I need a tree survey for planning? If there are trees on or near the site, most UK planning authorities will require a BS5837:2012 survey. Trees on neighbouring land can also matter where their root protection areas or canopies overlap the development. Do I need an ecology survey for planning? Most local planning authorities now expect a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal as standard. Sites with ponds, hedgerows, streams, rough grassland or old buildings, or bordering ancient woodland or a SSSI, will very likely need one. How long does a report take? Standard turnaround is 5 to 7 working days from site visit; 4 working days on the Elevate report level or with the separate ROAVR Accelerate upgrade. Species-specific ecology surveys need multiple visits across a survey season. Every programme is confirmed at quotation stage. Is my site exempt from BNG? Possibly, if the red-line area is 0.2 hectares or less and no priority habitat is present, from 6 August 2026. Confirming that usually needs a habitat check by an ecologist, so exemption is rarely automatic. Does ROAVR cover Scotland? Yes. Head office is in Inverness. Consultants are based across England, Scotland and Wales. ## Contact - Telephone, Inverness head office: 01463 667302 - Telephone, London: 020 3633 7902 - Telephone, Birmingham: 0121 816 1086 - Email: support@roavr-group.co.uk - General enquiry form: https://tally.so/r/w511L6 - Address: Marr House, Beechwood Business Park North, Sir Walter Scott Drive, Inverness, IV2 3BW, Scotland - Office hours: Monday to Friday, UK business hours ## Machine-readable - [agent.json](https://www.roavr-group.co.uk/agent.json): Full structured manifest — services, deliverables, survey seasons, named consultants, booking actions and routing. - [Agent information hub](https://www.roavr-group.co.uk/roavr-agent.html): Human-readable version of the same information. ## Quote site and related - [go-roavr.co.uk](https://www.go-roavr.co.uk): Quote and booking site for tree, ecology and BNG surveys. - [go-roavr.co.uk agent.json](https://www.go-roavr.co.uk/agent.json) - [go-roavr.co.uk llms.txt](https://www.go-roavr.co.uk/llms.txt) - [Articles](https://www.roavr-group.co.uk/roavr-group/roavr-group-articles/): Guidance on planning, arboriculture, ecology and BNG. - [Matt Harmsworth](https://www.matt-harmsworth.com): Founder and Managing Director.
